LAKE GARDENS

Developed in the 1880s, these gardens cover 70 hectares of rolling lawns, picturesque flower gardens and two lakes, which are home to many species of colourful and exotic fish. The bird, butterfly and deer parks, as well as orchid and hibiscus gardens are located within its grounds. This is one of the prime natural landmarks of our city.

Orchid Garden

Located at Jalan Cenderawasih and nestled within Perdana Lake Gardens. It is opened to the public on 16 th April 1986 and houses up to 800 species of orchids. Malaysia is home to some 3000 species of most beautiful & mysterious orchids found today.

Hibiscus Garden

The K.L Hibiscus Garden is sprawled over an area of 0.9 hectares & lies within the heart of Perdana Lake Gardens. There are over 2, 500 hibiscus plants in vibrant shades of red, yellow, coral, orange and pink can be found here. There are pergola, waterfall, pools, fountains and a lovely colonial style building (which has been converted into a tearoom & gallery and Laman2004 office) adding to the attractions.

KL BIRD PARK (8)
Located in the serene and scenic Lake Gardens is KL Bird Park, a must-see attraction that is just a 10-minute drive from the city centre. Visitors can enjoy the colourful spectacle of birds flitting about freely, listen to melodic bird songs, and just relax in natural, beautifully landscaped surroundings. Stroll through the Walk-In Free Flight Aviary – the largest of its kind in the world and home to more than 3,000 birds comprising about 200 local and foreign species. Admission is RM 12.00 for adults and RM 6.00 for children.

KL BUTTERFLY PARK (4)
KL Butterfly Park is a fascinating walk-in tropical park in the heart of the city. It is home to over 10 species of butterflies. Admission is RM9 for adults and RM2 for children. Camera: RM3.

KL Kancil & Deer Park
Located at Jalan Tembusu, next to Memorial Tun Abdul Razak & KL Orchid Garden. It is opened at 1987 featuring Kancil Species “Tragulus Javanicus Napu” from Pahang and Deer Species of “Spotted Deer” & “Dama-Dama”.

NATIONAL MONUMENT
Designed by American artist, Felix Weldon and cast in Italy, the National Monument (Tugu Kebangsaan) commemorates servicemen who sacrificed their lives during the struggle against the communist insurgency in the 1950s.

NATIONAL MUSEUM (22)
Featuring classical Malay architecture, the museum houses collections on history, local culture and customs, natural history, as well as outdoor displays of artefacts from the country’s past. Admission is RM2 (Adults and children over 12); Free (Children below 12 and students in school uniform).

Get an insight into the exciting and often dangerous world of the Royal Malaysian Police. Its early history is detailed vividly through visual displays.

ISLAMIC ARTS MUSEUM MALAYSIA (11)
The museum houses various themed galleries among which include the Islamic Architecture Gallery, which showcases miniature replicas of buildings that boast magnificent Islamic architecture including the Taj Mahal, Imam Ismail Albukhary Mosque and Museum, as well as the Amir Timur Mausoleum.

NATIONAL MOSQUE (1, 2)
The unique modern design of the National Mosque embodies contemporary designs, together with traditional Islamic art, calligraphy and ornamentation. The main dome, in the shape of an 18-pointed star, represents the 13 states of Malaysia and their unification by the Five Pillars of Islam (tenets). Visitors must dress conservatively and remove their footwear before entering.

NATIONAL PLANETARIUM
Located close to the National Mosque, the attractions here include space science and astronomy exhibits, a theatre screening 3-Dimensional movies, a viewing gallery and an observatory. Admission is RM1 for adults and children over 12 (extra charges for all shows).

TUN ABDUL RAZAK MEMORIAL (9)
The memorial of the country’s second Prime Minister showcases photographs, materials and films on the life and achievements of the nation’s “Father of Development”, among others.

DAYABUMI COMPLEX (14a)
Standing tall at 35 storeys high, the skyscraper’s high-vaulted arches and white open-fretwork glisten in the tropical sun. The significance of the Dayabumi Complex lies in it being the very first building to boast typical Malaysian architecture – a unique combination of modern lines and Islamic motifs.

MERDEKA SQUARE
On the turf at Merdeka Square, a marble plaque marks the spot where the Union Jack was lowered at midnight on August 30, 1957, and the Malaysian flag hoisted for the first time – marking the birth of a nation. The flagpole is the tallest in the world. Live entertainment and cultural shows are staged at the amphitheatre on festive occasions. The Royal Selangor Club and St Mary’s Cathedral are but two famous landmarks that can be found nearby.

KL RAILWAY STATION (12)
Built in 1910, the Islamic influences in the design of graceful arches and minarets make this one of the most distinctive railway stations in the world. The building underwent extensive renovations and refurbishment in 1986. This was the nerve centre of the Malaysian railways that stretches from the north to the south of the country, and eastward to Kelantan before its recent relocation to KL Sentral.
